The Kiss, Gustav Klimt

This painting is called  The Kiss, by Gustav Klimt. It measures 180 x 180 and it was used with oil paints. Gustav painted this between 1907-08 he painted various artworks that are all similar. This painting has a rusted brown back ground and a various amount of abstract shapes. It betrays two lovers and the male figure is kissing the female. There are patterns that are repeated and it seems that they are laying in the bed. The man is directed at the top of the canvas and has his hands around the female.

The artist uses many dull or tan  colors. The color yellow and brown is repeated throughout his work. He expresses rythme by the patterns that are displayed in his art work. He  uses extreme details on the bottom left of the artwork which seems to be a blanket. The little flowers that are on the blanket tells the amount of effort he put into this piece of art.

In this painting the artist is trying to display the love of these two human beings in this painting. The way he made the male caress the female figure in the painting made it clear to explain their compassion. The gentle kiss on the female figures forehead was done by the artist to express the deep amount of love they have. By Gustav making the two figures do this helps give the picture a better understanding of the story.

This piece of artwork used a lot of details which made the value of the picture. This picture is very  moving and  shows a lot of  skill and technique. I do not like the tan colors of this painting even though it is  there to help the main figures stand out it doesn't fit well in my eyes. As said before he used various  shapes and patterns. I also dislike how the male figure body is formed correctly which makes the picture seem off balanced.
